Tennessee Walking Horses - Organizations
In the year 1935 the admirers of the Tennessee Walking Horse breed organized the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeder's Association of America. The main purpose of the association was to collect, record and preserve their favorite breed. The association sponsored the program that promoted the breed. The home of the first meeting if its members was Lewisburg, Tennessee, USA, and was chosen to be an official headquarters of the organization as well. The breed of Tennessee Walking Horses was officially recognized by the United States Department of Agriculture in 1950 as a light horse. In 1947 the studbook was closed, which meant that the horse could be registered only if both parents of the horse are also registered. Nowadays the breed is easily recognized and is very popular.
